NAOSH Week

Len Hong, President and CEO of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is hoping that NAOSH week will help promote health and safety in the workplace, and encouraging workers to become involved. “By getting involved in the planning and implementation of workplace health and safety systems and programs, Canadians will play an important role in contributing to the welfare of their fellow workers.” By promoting collaborated efforts in the workplace in preventing health and safety problems will spread the positive results to the home and the community. The Construction Safety Association of Ontario

The Construction Safety Association of Ontario recently handed out their 2009 safety awards at its 80th annual general meeting. Vale Inco employee Patricia Lavigne received the 2009 Roy A. Phinnemore Award for her work in making significant contributions to health and safety in the Sudbury and North Bay regions. Steve Cody, district loss-prevention supervisor with PCL Constructors Canada, accepted the Gil Samson award on behalf of the Ottawa Regional Labour-Management Health and Safety Committee for their achievements as a labour-management committee. (Daily Commercial News and Construction Record, May 2009).

Oilsands Safety Association

Setting common standards for safety through the Oilsands Safety Association has allowed three organizations (Suncor, Syncrude, and Albian) to streamline their training process and maintain safety standards across three sites. The Oilsands Safety Association works towards an “incident-free workforce”. (Oilsands Safety Association, May 2003).

The Alberta Construction Safety Association
